Demmak's Areas of Activities

Demmak's activities are aimed at promoting the identity of Koteka people and the problems that the koteka people face today via the following activities:

First, conduct research (document) roots of problems in the areas of environmental damage, human rights violations, discrimination against Papuans/ Koteka People, lack of law enforcement, and so on and propose solutions in Koteka/Papua perspectives. These are carried out in co-operation with the Alliance of Papuan Students.

Second, conduct Surveys and Document Customary Laws, Norms and Values, and Produce Bylaws for each tribe to get approval from the Government. 

Third, conduct research on various human rights violations, particularly related to the rights of indigenous minorities of Koteka Tribes and report the outcome to related institutions and publicise the findings. 

Fourth, hold discussions and deliberations for Tribal Elders on UN System, Organs and Instruments in relation to our rights and how we can use them for our benefits. 

Fifth, write books and translate materials in support to the training activities and also to educate the world and the koteka tribes various issues related to our rights.


The purposes of all these activities are:

Firstly, to promote and protect human rights as well as create space for peace and justice in West Papua, and

Secondly, to identify and document the vital cultural objects and values of koteka people.
